The Department of Business Organization and Management, formed on the basis of two departments, has integrated the high scientific and educational traditions of these departments. Therefore, it is necessary to take a brief look at the history of both departments.

From the day of its establishment, the Department of Business Organization and Management was called the Department of Industrial Economy until August 1996. Later, it worked under the titles of Economics (1998), Engineering economics (1998), Enterprises' economy and organization (2002). From 2008 to March 2017, it was named the Department of Business Organization and Management. The first head of the department was Assoc. A.H. Taghiyev, in the following years, assistant to the department. S.M. Mikayilova (1996-1998, 1999-2000), Assoc. H.I. Hashimov (1998-1999), Assoc. T.G. Javadov (2000-2006). Former director of the Institute of Economics of ANAS, prof. Sh.M. Muradov, corresponding member of ANAS, worked in this department. Since 2006, the department has been headed by associate professor Galib Siraj oglu Huseynov.

The Department of Management was established in September 1999, since subjects related to entrepreneurship were taught, in 2002 the name of the department was changed to Entrepreneurship and Management, and from 2009 it was called the Department of Management. The main reason for the creation of the department was

personnel training at Sumgait State University in the fields of Management, Business management. From the date of its establishment until 2004, associate professor Albert Hamid oglu Taghiyev headed the department. Since 2004, associate professor Orujaliyeva Basti Aligizi worked as the head of the department. From 2015 to 2017, the department was appointed by the e.p.d. Ahmadzade Mehman Imamverdi oglu was in charge.

In connection with the structural changes, according to the decision of the Scientific Council of SSU dated 29.03.2017, the Department of Business Organization and Management was merged with the Department of Management and named the Department of Business Organization and Management. Currently, the department is headed by associate professor G.S. Huseynov.

The department has 4 associate professors, 2 0.5 associate professors, 7 senior teachers (including 1 PhD in economics), 1 teacher, and 2 auxiliary staff.
